How our Finchley Road practice cares for families in NW3, from a baby’s first visit to check-ups for older relatives, with tips for each age group.
Bringing the whole family to one practice makes life simpler, especially when everyone lives, studies or works around Finchley Road, South Hampstead or Swiss Cottage. Here is what dental care looks like at different stages of life.
Bring your child to the dentist when their first teeth appear, and by their first birthday at the latest. Early visits are mainly about getting familiar with the surroundings and giving parents advice on brushing, diet and teething. For children under three, use a smear of fluoride toothpaste. From three to six, use a pea-sized amount. See our children’s dentistry page.
Regular check-ups help us monitor how adult teeth are coming through and spot early decay. We can also give advice on sports mouthguards and whether an orthodontic assessment would be useful.
Busy working lives can push dental visits down the list. Routine examinations and hygiene appointments help catch problems early, when treatment is usually simpler. If you feel anxious, read our nervous patients page and let us know when you book.
Gum health, dry mouth from medication, and the care of crowns, bridges or dentures all become more important with age. Please bring an up-to-date list of medicines to each appointment.
Tell us when you call if you would like linked appointments. We will try to arrange them close together, subject to availability.
Our practice is on Finchley Road, opposite Finchley Road Underground station (Jubilee and Metropolitan lines). Swiss Cottage (Jubilee line) and Finchley Road & Frognal (London Overground, Mildmay line) are the other nearby stations, which makes us easy to reach from South Hampstead, Swiss Cottage, Belsize Park, Hampstead, West Hampstead and St John’s Wood.
